SARAH R. ESPY, PRIVATE JOURNAL 1859-1868

Alabama Department of Archives and History, Montgomery, Alabama

Used with permission.

Since Sarah often used only last names, with an occasional first initial, these matches are educated guesses. I have used proximity to the Espy dwelling when references seemed to indicate the person lived nearby. Some names were only listed one time in the census, so these are probably correct. The person's occuption was also a help, as were references to visiting two families or businesses on the same afternoon. There are many people I'm not sure about, such as the many Hales, Espys, and many others. If anyone can further identify the people in the diary, please let me know. I find working on the names and getting familiar with the community very addictive!
